My name is Luana Correia, I’m 23 years old, and my journey until this Master could be considered a series of accidentally discovering what I wanted to pursue.
The first episode was my bachelor’s degree in the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, Portugal, where I’m from. I wanted to study Photography but got into Sciences of Art and Heritage, which is a fancy name for Museology and Curator Studies, with a little insight on conservation and restoration of art. I’ve always loved history and museums, but I never thought this topic would be of so much interest to me.
After finishing my bachelor’s, I wanted to either work in a library or pursue History of Art, so coming across this Master was the second episode. I’ve always been interested in books, and how not only they tell us stories through their written content, but also by looking at them as an artifact, an object of art. This Master is the perfect combination of what I love, and I believe that it will give me enough tools and knowledge on the historical aspects of the book, its preservation and incorporation in a digital world, so that I can work in the conservation of rare books, in a library or a museum.
