Hello, I’m Selma from Albania. I’m a first-year master’s student in Rare Books and Digital Humanities at the University of Franche-Comté UBFC. I have a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Information Management from a prestigious university in Turkey, where I studied for about 8 years as an international student. My previous studies covered library science, data management, information retrieval, document management with some prior knowledge of digital humanities. My passion lies in old and rare books and I enjoy learning and self-improvement. The deep love and insatiable curiosity I have for rare and ancient books marked my second masters journey as a student of digital humanities. My fascination with ancient books extends beyond their content to the history within their pages, offering a glimpse into the past. This passion led me to explore rare books and combine it with digital humanities.
The program’s curriculum is rich, featuring an ideal combination of rare books, bibliography, and digital humanities – all factors that immediately attracted me to this unique program which offers two internship opportunities in addition to its academic focus on practice. The study program has provided me with the opportunity to learn Latin and Ancient Greek, which are not easy languages but have expanded my access to treasured books and ancient texts. Our coursework is helping us gain a deeper understanding of the historical, cultural, and artistic significance of rare books. Besançon is a beautiful city rich in culture and art, making me feel fortunate to be part of this program where I’ve made many new friends who enhance this experience.
