By the end of this Master, I got to combine my traditional bibliographic knowledge with digital skills. Working with rare texts taught me that every book is different and should never be taken for granted. You can learn so much about history just by looking at the annotations, typography and even the quality of the paper. I really enjoyed the history aspect as well as the digital part. It gave me a new perspective on how to preserve physical items, as well as the complex processes behind cataloguing and indexing in both traditional and digital formats.
I also got to learn about cultural heritage and develop my skills in using various digital tools. Before this Master’s, I had no idea there were so many digital tools for preserving old books, and I certainly didn’t think I was going to discover a passion for programming. I’d absolutely love to continue using these skills in the future. This programme has definitely changed my perspective; I now see digital humanities not as a substitute, but as a powerful ally in preserving rare books and engaging with our cultural history.
