The 17th century Jesuits correspondence

Between 1861 and 1865, the Royal Academy of History of Spain published a selection of letters in seven volumes included in the collection “Memorial Histórico Español”. These are more than 1000 letters from Jesuit to Jesuit in Spain during the second half of the Thirty Years’ War, from1634 to 1648, what constitutes an exceptional primary resource to deepen in the history and society of that time.
These letters are the core of my scientific project, which is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Rudy Chaulet. This project is planned in two interwoven components: In the first part, it is essential to have an overview of the historical circumstances to understand the topics of the letters, this frame is divided into four aspects: The internal problems of Spain in the 17^th century, the Thirty Years’ War, the New World and the Inquisition. On the other hand, a web site containing the main information of the letters will be created containing the following sections: 1) Dictionary of characters, 2) Map of quoted places, 3) Modernization of the text, and a 4) Glossary of ancient terms.
This is a quintessential endeavor of the Digital Humanities because, as Dominique Vink says, it is a meeting of computer sciences and technologies and the human and social sciences.

Entre 1861 et 1865, l’Académie Royale d’Histoire de l’Espagne a publié une sélection de lettres en sept volumes inclus dans la collection «Memorial Histórico Español». Il s’agit de plus de 1000 lettres de jésuites en Espagne pendant la seconde moitié de la guerre de Trente Ans, de 1634 à 1648, qui constituent une ressource primaire exceptionnelle pour approfondir l’histoire et la société de l’époque.
Ces lettres sont le noyau de mon projet scientifique sous la supervision du Dr Rudy Chaulet. Ce travail est prévu en deux parties entrelacés : D’un côté, il est essentiel de savoir quelles sont les circonstances historiques pour mieux comprendre les sujets des lettres, c’est constitué en quatre aspects : Les problèmes internes de l’Espagne au 17ème siècle, la guerre de Trente Ans, le Nouveau Monde et l’Inquisition. D’autre part, un site web sera créé et contiendra les informations principales des lettres : 1) Dictionnaire de caractères, 2) Carte des lieux cités, 3) Modernisation du texte, et 4) Glossaire des termes anciens.
Il s’agit d’une recherche caractéristique par excellence des Humanités Numériques car, comme le dit Dominique Vink, c’est une rencontre des sciences et technologies informatiques et des sciences humaines et sociales.
